Komodo Island and Labuan Bajo are among the most visited places in Flores, as both spots present unique and distinct attractions. Komodo Island, as its name suggests, offers the world’s best place to see Komodo dragons. While Labuan Bajo has some stunning views and landscapes in between the small islands. One of these small islands is Sebayur Island, which is known to have some of the best dive and snorkeling sites.
Sebayur Island is close to Rinca Island, which takes approximately only 30 minutes on a speedboat. If you come from Labuan Bajo, it will take around 2 hours.
Once you have landed on the island, you’ll notice the green and shady hills with a refreshing and quiet atmosphere. The beaches are clean with white sands and crystal clear waters. It’s really the perfect place to relieve your stress.
The highlight of the island is that it’s the perfect place for watersports. Bringing your own diving equipment won’t be necessary, as the resorts can provide everything you need. Below the surface of Sebayur is a stretch of reef extending up to the northwest and around the edges. Some large boulders in the greater depths can be found where you can spot giant trevally, coral trout, snappers, and white tip reef sharks. The wall is safe from current with constant warm water and excellent visibility.
Other nearby diving sites include Castle Rocks, Crystal Rocks, and Batu Bolong. Reaching these spots only takes a short boat ride.
Besides the diving activities, visitors love to go trekking in the hills not far from the beach. Reaching the top of the hill will reward you with jaw-dropping scenes. Make sure you’re physically up for it, as it can be stamina draining to reach the hilltop.
