Komodo is one of the most famous diving destinations! It’s mostly known for its manta rays and earned reputation for its colorful coral populations and marine life diversity. In order to hit all of the best spots, a 3-day liveaboard trip is recommended to reach the most untouched regions that aren’t accessible directly from the mainland.
Note that Komodo diving can have some unpredictable current. Therefore, diving with a DSMb/SMB is a must! You should also consider bringing some other equipment, such as a flashlight for night diving and warmer wetsuits, as the water temperature can drop quite low, even in the summer. Also, don’t forget your camera! Bringing your own scuba gear is also a good idea.
Here are the best dive sites in Komodo.
Batubalong
Boasting some of the most colorful corals as far as the eye can see, as well as the chance to swim with more turtles than you’ve ever experienced before, Batubolong is known as one of the best dive sites of all time! Sharks and rays are an everyday occurrence in the shallow depths with minimal currents, and if the light is perfect, you’ll certainly get some perfect pictures too.
Taka Makassar
This spot is where you want to be if you’re looking for manta rays! Expect to see them swooping by, along with turtles and the opportunity to spot sharks, eagle rays and clownfish all at once. The marine life and peaceful corals make this spot a must-visit for your Komodo diving adventure!
Gili Lawa (night dive)
